Aspen Puzzle Box

This Aspen Puzzle Box was the very first bandsaw box project that I attempted.

I used aspen because I had some leftover from another project. Never again. The wood has an odd texture and tears out rather easily. I'm not sure how to describe the texture, but it leaves a fuzzy surface when you cut it. I just don't like it very much. It is a white wood with very little contrast in the grain. I used the Ipswich Pine stain to bring out the grain and finished it with General Finish's Enduro-Var. After three coats it no longer had that fuzzy tacky feel to it.

The assembled box has three parts to it: the box, the lid, and the locking piece.

To open the box, one must first slide the locking piece up and out.

The lid then slides off either forward or backwards to reveal the inside of the box.
